Shared Plates, Shared Stories Kicks off with a Feast!

Local and international women came together to cook, connect and share stories at the first Shared Plates, Shared Stories session - celebrating culture, food and friendship.

Our Shared Plates, Shared Stories project has officially begun, and the first session set the tone perfectly with great food, lively conversation, and a strong sense of welcome.

The project brings women from different backgrounds together to cook, eat, and share stories through food. It is rooted in the idea that meals can create connection, and that conversations around the table can help people feel seen, valued, and included.

During the opening session, participants prepared dishes, swapped ingredients and techniques, and talked about the memories and traditions linked to the food they were making. The atmosphere was relaxed and full of curiosity, with plenty of laughter along the way.

Beyond the meal itself, the session reflected what the Joseph Lappin Centre is about: creating space for people to meet, build trust, and enjoy being together. Shared Plates, Shared Stories is about culture and creativity, but it is equally about belonging.

We are excited to see how the project grows over the coming weeks and the conversations, friendships, and recipes that come from it.
