A place to remember Joseph

The Joseph Lappin Centre was founded in 2013 in memory of Joseph Lappin, a 16-year-old Army Cadet from Old Swan whose life was tragically taken as an innocent victim of knife crime. We honour Joseph by raising awareness of the devastating impact of knife and gang culture on victims, perpetrators, families and communities. Through education, we work towards a safer, stronger community for everyone. Each year, we host a football tournament alongside Everton in the Community, Liverpool FC Foundation and Real Men Don't Carry Knives. We also run talks and creative workshops, opening up important conversations with young people. Joseph knew what he wanted to do with his life, so we also honour his strong sense of purpose and ambition by empowering others to find their path, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

Volunteers in community garden

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of everything we do. From running our food pantry and dementia memory cafe to hosting bingo nights, tending the community garden, and leading knit and natter and shared reading sessions, their dedication makes it all possible. Their warmth, energy, and commitment create a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and connected. We simply couldn't do it without them.

If you're interested in joining our incredible team of volunteers and making a real difference in the community, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out to us at Colleen at communitydevelopment@josephlappincentre.co.uk or call 0151 222 3507 to find out how you can get involved.
